Consumer goods manufacturing have increased dramatically in the last couple of decades, and so is the amount of waste concerning products and its packaging.
Recycling should take care of this problem, but this situation is more complicated than that. Glass, for example, is infinitely recyclable without losing quality, however it is dangerous not only for the facilities' employees, but also for the recycling machines, causing constant damage. In addition, it is difficult to sort by color when its pieces are minute.
The fashion industry, on the other hand, uses huge amounts of water to produce clothing. In 2015, there is an estimate that, 2683 billion cubic feet or 76 billion cubic meters of water were spent globally for textile production. And to create a single cotton shirt, 713 gallons or 2,700 liters of fresh water are required, the same amount to meet a person's needs for 2.5 years.
While these problems are being widely discussed, measures are being taken, and there is an urge for consumers to regain green living habits such as repurposing objects. The advantages of this lifestyle are reduced waste, an organized home and less money spending.

Chic hand sanitizer
The perfume industry focuses on fragrance and design when creating a bottle of eau de toilette or parfum. These products come in durable glass, different colors and shapes, depending on its concept. A few examples of a company's creativity include high heels, a diamond, a fist, male and female body figures, and even bottles shaped as cleaning products.
Perfumes are also very personal, as each person's taste is unique. When finishing a parfum bottle, the best way to avoid succumbing to the urge to store it somewhere, to occupy space, is to repurpose it as a stationary or portable hand sanitizer. This choice depends on the size of your perfume bottle.
Below, we share a recipe of hand sanitizer by Paul Frysh in WebMD, for you to refill your empty perfume bottle.
Homemade hand sanitizer
Recipe according to the World Health Organization standards:
4 cups of isopropyl alcohol, also called rubbing alcohol (99%)
¼ cup household hydrogen peroxide (3%)
4 teaspoons glycerin, also known as glycerol
1 cup distilled water (or water that has been boiled and cooled)
This recipe requires a plastic or glass container that holds 8 cups of liquid. After the mixture is ready, it can be transferred to your favorite empty perfume bottle.

Vase hangers
Plant hangers are here to stay, they can simply transform a home's environment and present themselves as a great concept for plant lovers who do not have enough room for them.
The plant hanger trend started in the 70s with the use of macramé, the weaving and knotting technique, that came back full force to recent interior design spaces.
Here, idle objects are highly valued. If you own a little plant and does not know where to place it, create a sustainable plant hanger for it by upcycling a little canvas tote bag.
For the perfect tote bag hanger, a few factors need to be taken into account:
Plant kind, size and weight
Canvas tote bag size
Suitable plants
Plants exist in different families, each one with distinct characteristics, basic care needs, sizes and weight. For this repurposing idea, the recommended plant is the succulent because it requires less water and fertilizer to grow, and it is smaller, taking less space. This houseplant classification includes cacti, and it is known by its fleshly leaves or stems.
Important precautions:
Succulents need a lot of light, place them close to a window or combine the insufficient sunlight with a white fluorescent tube.
The pot's mixture must contain sandy soil as well as potting soil
Watering must be limited but thorough

Bag size
The bag's size is critical for having the perfect eco-friendly plant hanger. If the tote is too large, the piece will have less stability, and it can also have a negative visual impact; opt for smaller sizes with heights from 6" to 8". If you have an old tote bag, bedsheets or rags, you can easily create a tote with it.
Mini trash can
Miniature versions of home decor are the cutest thing. Small kitchen and bedroom appliances, little furniture for cats, among others.
Trash cans come in handy and its mini version is helpful when the amount of generated trash is limited. This multipurpose idea results in a desk trash can for pencil shavings, batteries, and other home office waste or serves as bathroom disposal, for your skincare and makeup routine.
In this case, you will simply reuse an old candle jar or any other similar container made of a durable material.
The first goal is to remove the recipient contents, ending up with an empty container. If you chose a candle for this procedure, use a spoon to remove any excess wax, and then pour boiling water into the glass jar until the wax floats to the top, then remove it completely.
After washing it thoroughly, add a paper bag, plastic bag, a newspaper or magazine page to serve as a garbage bag. Otherwise, use your new mini trash can as it is.
